I was sitting at the bank of a river and noticed just how dark flowing water can be, but it wasn't just all-around black. When I didn't stare directly at it and instead unfocused my eyes I found that there was plenty of shapes at play. The range between the shadows and highlights of the water were narrow and because it was Fall, there leaves here and there that had yellowed to the point that they were almost as bright as the highlights themselves. These three elements when brought together had an interaction that was better than just the water on its own.
