The very hot day when I came across this scene while traveling through the warm springs area. I felt that this was a good expression of that day with the fiery orange of the field and the white hot gradation of the sky. The immediate hills were by no means close to where I was standing but they might as well have been part of the field itself when compared to the distance of the towering Mt. Jefferson. The sun was blaring from the right edge of the frame, but Jefferson was so far away that it almost became one big untouchable shape in the vast Oregon terrain.
